Digging within Banana Plantation
Mr. Kimuli Moses is one of the shareholders, an advocate of the High Court of Uganda, and Lead Counsel with United Advocates, a legal firm based in Kampala. He loves to farm and is fully engaged in farming activities 4 days a week. This is to create a balance with his legal profession.
He has been engaged in farming for 25 years. At the farm, he oversees the implementation of all farm activities and receives all reports of activities implemented and pending.
In the photo, Mr. Kimuli is pruning the banana plant. Pruning is an activity that he lovingly and faithfully does each time he is at the farm.
Harvesting Cassava
Kizito Dennis is one of the permanent farmers at the farm. He oversees all the practical farming activities and ensures that all the farmers both permanent and seasonal commit to working within the designated period.
In the photo, Dennis is harvesting cassava. Cassava is traditionally harvested by hand lifting the lower part of the stem and pulling the roots out of the ground, then removing them from the base of the plant.
Drying Beans
Drying beans under natural sunlight is a traditional practice, lasting for decades, and applicable to many crops. It involves suspending harvested been plants on poles for drying, taking 7 days in dry seasons or 14 days when less hot. This method shields beans from rain, pollutants, and eliminates the need for constant handling.
The picture shows an underground water system, a generational tradition involving a bucket and string to access water for plants, animals, and birds.
